Police: Man hid in house after selling drugs to officer

LAWRENCE — A local man known as "Macho" faces a number of charges, including distribution of cocaine and resisting arrest.

Santo Suarez, 26, of 134 Butler St., was arrested Thursday and charged with distribution of a class B (crack cocaine) drug, violation of the Controlled Substance Act within 1,000 feet of the Bruce Street School, disorderly conduct, breaking and entering a building or vehicle in the daytime with intent to commit a felony, and resisting arrest, according to a police report.

Suarez's involvement with state police started when he sold $90 in crack cocaine in a black Honda Civic owned by his mother to an undercover state trooper, police said. After the sale, when police moved in on the Civic, the driver fled onto Butler Street, police said.

Suarez then abandoned the Civic at 134 Butler St. and fled on foot, according to police.

Officers secured the vehicle and set up a perimeter as they searched for Suarez, police said.

A police dog led officers to the house at 134 Butler St., where they found Suarez hiding in the closet of a first-floor bedroom, according to police.

Suarez "actively resisted arrest," but he was eventually taken into custody, according to a police report.

After further investigation, police discovered that Suarez had a previous conviction for cocaine distribution out of Lawrence District Court, according to police.

Officers also contacted the owner of the Butler Street property Suarez hid in, police said. The owner said that "Macho" wasn't welcome at that address, according to police.
