ANDOVER — Quota International of Andover will present “Merrimack Valley Idol” on Saturday, Nov. 9 at the Wyndham Andover from 6 to 10 p.m. The evening will feature a competition between nine talented contestants from the Merrimack Valley. They will be competing for $500 in prize money and a chance to open a future performance by the New England Tenors.
The contestants in alphabetical order are: Heather Alfano of Salem, N.H., Nurilys Cintron of Lawrence, Emma Harris of Andover, Jillian Knopping of North Andover, Megan Lally of Salem, N.H., Anna McCabe of Lawrence, Josef Nocera of Newburyport, Dakota Driscoll of Dunstable, and Jamie Dyan Taker of Haverhill. All of the contestants have amazing talent.
Judges for Merrimack Valley Idol include local celebrities Mike Fay, Elizabeth Sarantos, and Rebecca Farnham. Mike Fay, founder of TTS (That’s The Spirit) operates local youth sports and theater programs. Mike is a theater producer-performer with multiple DASH Award nominations. He is the creator of the New England Tenors for whom the Merrimack Valley Idol winner will open in concert at the Rogers Center at Merrimack College in February of 2014.
Rebecca Farnham, Opera Director at Treble Chorus of New England, also teaches piano and voice privately and educates young actors in local community theater and Shakespeare. Operatically, she has served in several leading roles, including “Le Nozze di Figaro,” and “Candide.” She toured Germany with the Lyric Opera Studio performing Mozart’s, “Die Zauberflöte,” and studied Opera in Verona, Italy as part of Opera Viva!
Elizabeth Sarantos, a private reading and writing tutor, studied voice with Priscilla Ganley. She is a chorus member and serves on the board of directors of the New England Classical Singers and a member of The Choral Majority gospel choir. She has performed in solo recitals and has sung with the Lawrence Choral Arts Society and the Master Singers of Lexington.
