Grant helps low-income Lawrence students enjoy CCHS summer program

LAWRENCE — Central Catholic High School has been awarded a $2,400 grant from the Betty Beland Greater Lawrence Summer Fund, a fund of the Essex County Community Foundation (ECCF).

Central Catholic will use the grant funds to permit middle school students to attend any of the programs offered by Central Catholic’s “Kid Central” summer programs. The grant will fund students in grades 5-7 who are recommended by the Adelante program of the Lawrence YMCA, Bellesini Academy, Esperanza Academy, the Lawrence Boys & Girls Club, Lawrence Catholic Academy and the Lawrence Family Development Charter School.

Interested students should notify the leader at their school or organization of their interest in attending “Kid Central.” “Kid Central” offers programs in theatrical performance, robotics and CSI forensic science. For more information on “Kid Central”, visit www.centralcatholic.net/kidcentral.

The Betty Beland Greater Lawrence Summer Fund was started in 1990 by Betty Beland, Administrator of the Stevens Foundations in North Andover. In January of 2001, ECCF was asked and agreed to take over the fund. The goal for the fund is to raise as much money as possible to serve as many local kids during the school summer vacation months as possible.
