ANDOVER — A solicitor with an energy company was arrested Thursday after attempting to sell his company’s product to an area resident, even after police told him to register first.
Brandon Best, 20, of Milton, was arrested on Canterbury Street at 1:42 p.m. Thursday and charged with willful violation of a town bylaw.
The employee worked with Just Energy, a regional energy provider, according to police reports.
A Canterbury Street resident notified police that a “male wearing a white shirt was at her door saying he was from Just Energy but was asking her all kinds of personal questions.”
Police tracked the man down and spoke with him, after which they contacted the company’s headquarters and informed them of soliciting procedures in Andover, which involve registering with the Police Department first, according to police.
Then, an officer observed Best approach another home — before registering to solicit, as police instructed him to do, according to Andover Police Lt. Lee Britton.
He was then arrested for willfully violating the soliciting bylaw.
“Usually, when you tell them what to do, they go to apply,” Britton said. “This guy didn’t do it.”
