Andover speeding stop ends in five arrests
ANDOVER — A police officer on River Road at Riverside Drive got more than he bargained for after pulling a vehicle over for driving over the speed limit early Easter morning.
After the officer first pulled the car over at 2:24 a.m. Sunday, March 31, he smelled marijuana coming from the car, according to Andover Police Lt. William Ouellette. After searching the vehicle, five Lawrence youth were arrested.
Arrested were: Albert Peguero, 17, of 54 Bennington St. in Lawrence; Kiara Rodriguez, 18, of 37 East Dalton St. in Lawrence; Gabriel Torres, 18, of 32 Berkeley St. in Lawrence; Jewell Torres, 17, of 51 Portland St. in Lawrence; and a 16-year-old boy from Lawrence.
All five were charged with possession of a class D drug with intent to distribute after marijuana packaged in small bags was found in the car, Ouellette said.
All five were also charged with possession of ammunition without a permit after police found a handgun that fired blanks and a magazine containing seven rounds that didn’t go to a real handgun but still required a permit to carry, according to Ouellette.
The handgun and magazine were found in a bag together under one of the seats, Ouellette said.
