---- — LAWRENCE — Staff members from the offices of U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Congresswoman Tsongas will join State Rep. Diana DiZoglio, D-Methuen, at her monthly office hours at Lawrence Public Library tomorrow.
They will also be joined by State Reps. Frank Moran, D-Lawrence and Marcos Devers, D-Lawrence and staff from the office of State Sen. Barry Finegold, D-Andover.
The office hours will be held in the Robert Frost Conference Room, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Constituents will have the opportunity to discuss concerns they have on federal issues. Staff from Sen. Warren’s and Rep. Tsongas’s offices will be available to assist residents with issues pending before a federal agency. No appointment is necessary.
Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt hosting blood drive
ANDOVER — Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt at 28 Park St., is hosting a blood drive today from 1-7 p.m. to benefit Boston Children’s Hospital.
The Boston Children’s Hospital Blood Mobile will be at Orange Leaf as part of the Pints for Half Pints initiative. Orange Leaf will offer all donors a pint of free froyo for every pint of blood given.
Appointments to give blood can be made by visiting halfpints.childrenshospital.org and using the code ORANGELEAFA.
The blood drive is part of a month-long fundraising program in support of Boston Children’s Hospital. In 2012, Orange Leaf locations in Massachusetts made a $25,000 commitment to Boston Children’s Hospital. All money raised will go toward the Children’s Fund, which support’s the hospital’s greatest areas of need in care, research, medical training and community health.
Volunteer reception today at The Center at Punchard
ANDOVER — On Friday, April 26 from 2 to 4 p.m. over 100 seniors from the Center at Punchard volunteer program will be honored at an annual volunteer reception at the Town House on Main Street. Local dignitaries will be on hand to personally acknowledge the work our volunteers participate in throughout the community.
With over 300 active volunteers and well over 25,000 hours donated so far this year, these volunteers work in schools, the library, town offices and senior center.
A highlight of the afternoon will be the “Shining Star Award” which honors a person or persons each year for extraordinary service on behalf of the seniors of Andover.
Merrimack Valley YMCA to Receive Make a Difference Award
On Saturday April 27 at the Andover Country Club, the Merrimack Valley YMCA will be recognized with the Service Club of Andover’s Make a Difference Award.
The purpose of the Annual Charity Gala and Auction is to raise awareness and funds to support youth and adults with developmental disabilities. The Make a Difference Award is presented to an individual or group that has made a major impact in the areas of the Club’s mission.
The evening will include an additional special opportunity to raise funds for YMCA Camperships. The Service Club of Andover’s Annual Charity Gala and Auction will also feature WBZ-TV sports anchor and celebrity, Dan Roche as the Emcee. Congress on Your Corner on Saturday
METHUEN — Congresswoman Niki Tsongas will host her Congress on Your Corner program Saturday from 10-11 a.m. in the Great Hall at the Nevins Memorial Library, 305 Broadway.
Tsongas will have congressional staff with her and will be available to discuss any issue or concern on the minds of Third District residents. She will also be able to collect the appropriate information about an individual problem someone may have with a federal agency so that her office can assist in helping to resolve the matter.
This is an open invitation and all residents are encouraged to attend.
NECC Offers a Day in the College Classroom
Have you ever wondered what a day in the life of a Northern Essex Community College student was like? Are you a high school student thinking about attending Northern Essex or an adult who has always toyed with enrolling at Northern Essex for that long sought after degree or certificate? Well, NECC’s “College for a Day” on Wednesday, April 24, from 8 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. on the Haverhill Campus will give participants first-hand experience in a college classroom.
“College for a Day” is a great opportunity for prospective students to see all that Northern Essex has to offer. Visitors can sit in on a real college class, take a tour of the campus, attend a financial aid session or enjoy Spring Jam- an outdoor spring celebration,” says Laurie Dimitrov, director of admissions and recruitment at Northern Essex Community College. “We’ll have staff from across the college available to answer any questions about admissions, financial aid, transfer opportunities, career and supportive services, too.”
