Five local students were presented with scholarships during the annual scholarship dinner of the Merrimack Valley Chapter of UNICO Wednesday night at the Wyndham Hotel in Andover.
Winners of the $2,500 awards were: Megan McKenna of Tewksbury, a student at Austin Prep in Reading; Marika Cerbone and Sarah LaMacchia, both students at Andover High School; and Matthew Famiglietti of Tewksbury and Michael Consoli of Methuen, both students at Central Catholic High School in Lawrence.
UNICO of Merrimack Valley is celebrating its 24th year as a chapter of UNICO National, founded in 1922, the largest Italian American service organization in the United States, recently announced that it has raised and distributed over $800,000 to local charities.
UNICO President Ken DeBenedictis said the local group distributed over $37,000 to organizations and individuals in the year. UNICO of Merrimack Valley conducts an annual golf outing to raise money for its charitable activities.
