METHUEN — The Methuen Pop Warner's opening day ceremony will commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
The ceremony to be held at noon at Nicholson Stadium will raise funds for local homeless veterans.
Methuen Pop Warner will have for sale special edition commemorative T-shirts with all proceeds going to benefit the Veteran's Northeast Outreach Center in Haverhill.
Mayor William Manzi, members of the City Council, Methuen VFW Honor Guard, Methuen Police Department Honor Guard, Methuen Fire Department Honor Guard, Methuen High School Football and Cheerleading Teams, are expected to attend.
Established in 1985, The Veteran's Northeast Outreach Center is a private non-profit organization serving the Greater Merrimack Valley. Fishing clinic Sunday in Lawrence
LAWRENCE - Several openings remain for the Lawrence Heritage State Park Fishing Clinic scheduled for Sunday Aug. 21 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Bashara Boathouse on Easton Street. Fishing gear, bait and instruction will be provided free of charge. No fishing license is required, but all children must be accompanied by an adult and pre-registration is required. Fountain starts bid for Methuen West District
METHUEN - Sean Fountain will kick off his candidacy for West District City Council tonight from 6-9 p.m. at the American Legion hall on Broadway.
Fountain is in a three-way race with incumbents James Hajjar and Jeanne Pappalardo.
Andover artist's drawings on display
Drawings by Andover artist Joan Nyman, entitled "The Jewish World of Eastern Europe - Images From the Past," are part of an exhibition of artwork by the faculty of the DeCordova Museum School, running through the end of August at the Center for the Arts in Natick.
