LAWRENCE — Five people were arrested in a raid on a Monmouth Street apartment Wednesday afternoon, police said.
Two of those arrested face only motor vehicle charges for driving without a license and driving after suspension after they were stopped while driving away from the 9 Monmouth St., location, as the raid was about to unfold.
Members of the Special Operations/Street Narcotics Enforcement Unit had obtained a no-knock search warrant for the apartment at 1 p.m.
Jose Cruz, 45, Christian Cruz, 20, and Jose M. Cruz, 21, all occupants of the apartment, face various drug-related charges.
Mario Figueroa, 39, of 178 West St., was seen leaving the address and driving away. When police stopped the vehicle they arrested him for driving without a license.
A second vehicle with four men inside was stopped by police on Howard Street. The driver of that vehicle, Santos Figueroa Jr., 30, of 51 E. Dalton St., was arrested and charged with driving after suspension.
Police seized $2,205 in cash, a bag containing 4 to 5 grams of cocaine, stamp-sized glassine bags containing a brown powdery substance believed to be heroin, two vials of an unknown liquid, drug packaging material and equipment and personal identification documents for Jose Cruz and Jose M. Cruz.
Investigators also found a $20 bill with a serial number matching the bill that was used in an undercover drug buy on May 29.
