Lance Cpl. Zachary Greene, formerly of Methuen, completed 13 weeks of boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C., and graduated in November 2008. He then went on to the School of Infantry (ITB) at Camp Geiger, N.C. He has completed advanced combat training at Fort Pickett, Va., Yuma, Ariz., and Twentynine Palms, Calif. Greene is an infantryman with Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Division. He was stationed at Camp Lejeune, N.C., before he was deployed to Afghanistan in March.

Megan Moynihan, a freshman at Johnson and Wales University, has made the dean's list for the first two trimesters. Moynihan is majoring in baking and pastry arts. She is a 2009 graduate of Greater Lawrence Technical School. She is the daughter of John and Debbie Moynihan of Andover.

Fifty-six students from South Lawrence East Middle School recently participated in the 2010 Spring Carnival of Learning, which focused on teaching students the importance of postsecondary education as well as financial aid resources that are available to assist them. The carnival included a hands-on experiential career fair aimed at promoting career awareness and exploration. Activities were designed to expose students to career choices and show them opportunities that a college experience can provide. Students were sent home with a bag of school supplies and a college T-shirt along with an informational packet for their parents.

Kimberly Ann Nguyen of Methuen has been inducted into the North Shore Chapter of Sigma Xi The Scientific Research Society. Nguyen, a senior at Salem State College, is majoring in environmental science. A 2005 graduate of Methuen High School, Nguyen will continue on for her masters at UMass Boston in the fall. She is the daughter of Jenny and Tu Anh Nguyen and the niece of Connie Sousa.

Rebecca Tweedie of North Andover has been declared a National Merit $2,500 Scholarship winner. Tweedie plans a career in the field of international relations. She is a student at Austin Preparatory School.

Samuel Ortega of Lawrence, a Northeastern University student, participated in a Distributing Resources to Youth and Volunteer Efforts (DRYVE) mission to the Dominican Republic. Ortega volunteered in the Los Alcarrizos district of Santo Domingo, at the Colegio Cristiano Mahanaim primary school. He provided underprivileged youth with adequate educational resources, fostered change and inspired them to want to pursue an education. Ortega hopes for another successful outreach project.

Arti Deepa Tewari of Andover has been named a 2010 Goldwater Scholar, an honor bestowed on the nation's top undergraduates in mathematics, science, and engineering. Tewari is a second-year biochemistry major at Northeastern University.

Nairomi Inoa of Lawrence was selected as a finalist in Boston Symphony Orchestra's Project Tchaikovsky contest, a competition featuring fashion inspired by the music of Pytor Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Inoa, a junior fashion design major at Mount Ida College, received $100 toward the production of her design. She is a graduate of Greater Lawrence Technical High School.

Seth Johnson, a senior at Colby College in Waterville, Maine, was elected to membership in Phi Beta Kappa. Johnson, a biology major with a concentration in cell and molecular biology/biochemistry, was one of 61 students to be inducted into Phi Beta Kappa at Colby. A graduate of Andover High School, he is the son of Philip and Ellen Johnson of Andover.
