ANDOVER — Two accidents yesterday on Interstate 93 in Massachusetts left one person injured and a car badly burned.
The first accident was called in about 5:37 a.m., when a motorcycle operator identified as Derek O'Donnell of Derry, N.H., crashed his 2000 Harley Davidson on I-93 South, just north of Dascomb Road in Andover.
O'Donnell, who was alert at the scene, complained of back and neck pain and was taken to Lawrence General Hospital by Andover rescue crews, according to Andover police.
He was transferred to a Boston hospital, but Lawrence General could not identify what hospital he was taken to or his condition.
At around 9 a.m., a car traveling south on I-93 hit two roadside signs and traveled into the traffic island at the Lowell Street exit and caught on fire.
The vehicle, a 2002 Subaru Forester, was operated by Edward Lenihan, 43, of Danville, N.H. He was not injured and refused medical attention at the scene.
There are no charges at this time, but the accident is under investigation.
That accident backed up traffic on 93 South all the way to River Road.
The scene was cleared in less than an hour.
