ANDOVER — Two Lawrence residents were arrested and charged with selling drugs near a school Wednesday afternoon in an incident with a heavy police response.
Arrested in the incident were Freddy Abreu, 24, of 82 Bailey St., and Jose Gomez, 37, of 73 Cross St., apt. 1.
Both are charged with distribution of a class A drug and having a controlled substance in, on or near a school or playground.
The incident was first reported around 4:03 p.m. and required a police K-9 unit from Everett.
The arrest required a response from 12 Andover police officers, including 11 patrolmen and one sergeant.
Prior police reports also show Abreu was arrested twice on drug charges in the past year.
Abreu was arrested recently on Tuesday, July 9, this time by Lawrence police for distribution of a class A drug on Abbott and Foster streets.
Abreu was also arrested June 24, 2012 for possession of a Class A substance, along with possession of marijuana and possession with intent to distribute marijuana, operating under the influence of drugs, and a drug violation near a school zone or park. The arrest took place after he was involved in a car accident in Lawrence.
Further information regarding the incident in Andover wasn’t available from police last night.
