Artist of the Month named

METHUEN — Mayor Stephen Zanni named Carol Boileau as Methuen’s Artist of the Month for January 2013.

Boileau is a formally trained fine artist who attended the Massachusetts College of Art and the Boston Museum of Fine Arts School, among other art institutes.

“I view my work as a challenge, to record things in a personal way, to paint the feelings, to look deeply into the subject and to bring them to life again,” Boileau said.

She is currently the artist in residence at the Brush Gallery in Lowell and said her favorite exhibit thus far has been one titled “Romance the Stones” — a joint exhibit with work from her, her two daughters and her granddaughter. Boileau’s daughter Tracy will follow her mother as the mayor’s February artist of the month.

“Carol has shown work all over New England and I am thrilled that she will be our first artist of 2013,” Zanni said. “I want to invite people to stop by my office and view some of her pieces.”

The Artist of the Month Program was started six years ago to give members of Methuen’s art community a forum to display their work and to encourage participation in Methuen’s growing creative economy. Artists interested in being considered for Artist of the Month should contact Juliette Cormier at 978-983-8505.
