LAWRENCE — A Sunday afternoon complaint “of a man with a firearm in his pocket who is dealing drugs” led to the arrest of City Councilor Sandy Almonte’s daughter and her boyfriend on drug distribution charges, according to police.
Sheyleene Bernice Cordon, 19, of 33 Woodland St., and her boyfriend, Kevin Antonio Gervacio, 19, of 21 Wendall St., #3, were both arrested and charged with distribution of marijuana after the 2:11 p.m. incident Sunday at Bennington and Fern streets, according to a police report.
Almonte, the District A (Prospect Hill) City Councilor, also lives at 33 Woodland St. Almonte is listed as Cordon’s mother on arrest records.
Officers Robert Moody and Ariel Montas were sent to Bennington and Fern streets after police received the report of a “male with the gun and drugs” was in the area. The caller said the man was “going back and forth to a silver Corolla which is parked at the corner.”
Police found Cordon and Gervacio standing outside a silver Ford Focus. Gervacio said the car was broken down and he was trying to fix it. Moody told him they’d received a call he was armed with a gun and asked if he could pat him down. Gervacio agreed, according to Moody’s report.
Police found a cell phone along with a large amount of cash bulging out of one of his pants pockets. When asked where he got all the cash, Gervacio said “he works with his uncle doing odd jobs,” according to the report.
Gervacio was not carrying a firearm, according to the report.
Cordon provided police with her ID and said she was with Gervacio while he was trying to get the car started. Inside the car, “I could smell a very strong scent of raw marijuana coming from the interior of the vehicle. I then asked her if she had any weed on her ... She stated that she smokes weed but does not sell it,” Moody wrote.
