NORTH ANDOVER — A pilot escaped injury Monday morning when the nose gear on his airplane malfunctioned during a landing at Lawrence Municipal Airport.
The nose gear — the front wheels — deployed but did not lock in place, according to Michael Miller, airport manager.
Asked if the plane, a 2-engine Beechcraft Duke, can be repaired, Miller said that remains to be determined.
The Federal Aviation Administration will inspect the aircraft and investigate the incident, he said.
The pilot and a passenger refused medical attention, according to police.
The accident was reported at 9:12 a.m.
Engines 1 and 2 and Ladder 1 from the Fire Department and the police responded promptly, Miller said.
The Beechcraft Duke seats a pilot and five passengers. The damaged airplane was built in 1973, Miller said.
