Driver admits to texting as she ran into parked vehicle

NORTH ANDOVER — An accident that happened early Sunday morning provided yet another reason why people should not text while they are driving.

Veterans Officers Joseph Kamal and William Brush investigated a report that a car was on its side at Middlesex Street and Mifflin Drive shortly before 3 a.m. The 24-year-old woman who was driving the car was headed north on Middlesex Street when she struck a parked vehicle, according to Lt. Charles Gray, spokesman for the North Andover Police Department.

The driver, who admitted she was texting while driving, was not injured, police said. She was issued a citation for texting while driving, impeded operation and failure to have her car inspected.

Gray pointed out that police Chief Paul Gallagher has frequently warned motorists not to use their electronic devices while they are driving. The North Andover police will continue to enforce the laws against distracted driving, Gray said.
