LAWRENCE - A 49-year-old cab driver was robbed a gunpoint early Monday morning after picking up two men at 99 Park St.
The cabbie said both men smelled of alcohol and he assumed they were coming from a bar or party, according to a police report by Sgt. John Nicoletti.
They asked the taxi driver to take them to a variety of locations. Finally, when the cab driver turned onto Mechanic Street, a hard object was pressed into the back of his head and one of the men threatened, "Give me the money. Give the money," Nicoletti wrote.
The cabbie turned to look at the robber and saw a black handgun pointed at his face. The taxi driver also said he was slapped in the face before he turned over cash to the robbers. Both men then ran from the cab, into a yard behind a house, police said.
The gunman was wearing a dark New York Yankees ballcap, dark hooded sweatshirt and a diamond earring. He had a chin strap type beard with a small goatee.
The other robber appeared to be no older than 20 and spoke Spanish with a Puerto Rican accent, according to the report.
