SALEM, N.H. — Get into the spirit of the season with a new twist on a holiday classic Thursday with “It’s a Wonderful Life” with the Pontine Theater at Kelley Library, 234 Main St.
The event begins at 7 p.m.
Pontine Theatre’s artistic directors M. Marguerite Mathews and Greg Gathers will perform a two-person, condensed version of “It’s A Wonderful Life.”
The script is drawn from a 1940s radio play based on the popular movie. Pontine Theatre adds a lively production style featuring colorful puppets and masks. Call 603-898-7064 for more information.
Sandown Chess Club welcomes all levels
SANDOWN — Looking for a good chess match? Always wanted to learn? Head to Sandown Public Library Thursday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The Chess Club meets the third Thursday of the month. People of all ages and experience levels are welcome.
Chess master Monty Cole is ready to challenge your every move and help strengthen your strategic skills. The library is at 305 Main St.
Annual Run to the Beach is March 17
The Andover Striders in association with the Winner’s Circle Running Club will present their annual Run to the Beach 30K, otherwise known as the “Goin Down the Road Feelin Bad” run March 17 (St. Patrick’s Day) at 10 a.m.
Participants are asked to wear green. The race starts at the North Andover VFW, Route 125, and finishes at the Winner’s Circle Sports Bar in Salisbury. This is a point-to-point course and runners are on their own as far as transportation. Please bring your watch, as you will be timing yourself.
If you so desire you can run with your iPod, Walkman, headphones, or 8-track player, although you might miss the point of a running a long training run with your old and new friends. Post-run libations at the Circle will be provided by the WCRC and the AS. The records are 1:50 for male and 2:00 for female. has youth programs
GROVELAND — The Langley-Adams Library is offering two youth programs this month.
The first, “That’s a Wrap,” is Dec. 21 at 3 p.m. Children in grades six to 12 are invited to enjoy hot cocoa and wrap presents. The second program is a Coffee House on Dec. 26 at 6:30 p.m. Talented teens are invited, including artists, singers, musicians and poets. Possible Dreams event set for Jan. 28
HAVERHILL — Team Haverhill invites all Haverhill residents to participate in “Possible Dreams 2013,” a community-wide conversation about Haverhill’s future.
Possible Dreams 2013 will be held Jan. 28 at 7 p.m. in the Hartleb Technology Center on the Haverhill campus of Northern Essex Community College.
This year’s theme is “Eyes on the Stars, Feet on the Ground” – symbolizing Haverhill’s growing aspirations for cultural and economic vitality, as well as a growing realism about what it takes to implement inspiring initiatives.
Since 2008, Team Haverhill’s Possible Dreams event has brought the community together to envision a brighter future for the city, with an annual attendance of more than 125 people.
, including local residents, public officials, organizational leaders, business owners, and volunteers.Community-based initiatives that were born at past Possible Dreams events include the dramatic expansion of curbside recycling, revitalization of the Haverhill Farmers Market, and establishment of the River Ruckus festival.
The evening’s popular World Cafe format creates a welcoming environment and encourages lively discussion in smaller groups.
