LAWRENCE - An elderly man who may have suffered a “medical incident” that caused him to lose control of his car was killed yesterday when he veered out of a northbound lane on Interstate 495 and crashed into a guard rail, police said.
Police provided no other details about the victim, including his name, age and hometown, pending notification of his family. Police also released no details about the medical incident the man may have suffered.
There were no passengers in the car, a 2007 Honda CRV, and no other vehicles were involved in the accident, police said.
State police from the Andover barracks closed the two left northbound lanes of the interstate for 20 minutes while investigating the accident, which occurred south of Exit 46 at 1:26 p.m.
The driver was transported to Lawrence General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Troopers were assisted by the Lawrence’s Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services.
