Former NFL great to speak in Haverhill

---- — HAVERHILL — Former NFL great Joe Jackson, defensive end for the New York Jets and Minnesota Vikings, will speak at New Life Christian Assembly of God, 966 Main St. on Saturday at a breakfast at 8 a.m. and on Sunday at both the 8:30 and 10:45 a.m. services.

Jackson played during the Joe Namath era and was one of the Vikings’ “Purple People Eaters.”

Jackson is an evangelist to athletes and conference speaker to Christian men’s groups throughout the country.

Labor Day concert at Winnekenni Castle

HAVERHILL — Winnekenni Castle will hold a free blues concert on the lawn on Monday, Labor Day, from 1 to 4 p.m. featuring the band “Rockspring.”

Admission is free. Lawn toys for children will be out on the grounds. Food and refreshments will be available.

Lawrence election is Sept. 17

LAWRENCE — The Municipal Preliminary Election, for the office of mayor and many other seats, will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 17.

Poll locations will remain open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Bilingual assistance will be available to voters at each poll location and at the Election Division Office, located at 200 Common St.

You must be registered to vote in this election no later than Wednesday, Aug. 28.

To register, visit the Office of the City Clerk, 200 Common St. It will be open until 8 p.m. on August 28, 2013 to accept voter registrations.

Absentee ballots will be available next week, and may be obtained by request to the Election Division, Room 4, 200 Common St. Absentee ballot applications must be received by the Election Division Office no later than noon on Friday, Sept. 13, 2013.
