Lawrence fire department remembers Sept. 11

---- — LAWRENCE — The Lawrence Fire Department is hosting a Sept. 11 remembrance service tomorrow beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Central Fire Station, 65 Lowell St.

Service starts with the ringing of the bell of the Mutual Relief Association. Fire Lt. James Flynn will do the introductions.

A reception follows.

Tomorrow marks the 12th anniversary of the terror attacks at the World Trade Center in Manhattan; near Shanksville, Penn. and at the Pentagon.

Prayer Shawl Tea on Sept. 17

ANDOVER — Communities Together, Inc. and St. Augustine Parish are hosting the 10th Annual Interfaith Prayer Shawl Tea Sept. 17, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the parish’s Center for Education and Ministry, 35 Essex St.

Colette Crowley, Chaplain at Lowell General Hospital speaks on, “Wrapped in Love” and Anne Daly, social worker at Edgewood Retirement Community, will share “Reflections on the Prayer Shawl Tea and Ministry.”

The shawls will be blessed by clergy members.

Comedy show to aid Boys & Girls Club

NORTH ANDOVER — A comedy show headlined by “Lots of Laughs” by the Johnny Pizzi Comedy all-star and featuring Mike McDonald, Graig Murphy and Chris D. will be held Oct. 4 at China Blossom Comedy Club, 946 Osgood St.

Dinner and refreshments start at 7 p.m. followed by performances at 8:45 p.m. Cost is $50 which does not include food or drinks. Proceeds benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence.

Nature photographer shows work Saturday

NEWBURYPORT — The public is invited to a free presentation by acclaimed nature photographer Michael Milicia, who will present a narrated slide program featuring his images of birds and other wildlife in the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge visitor center auditorium in Saturday, beginning at 1:30 pm.

Milicia will share the stories behind each image, providing a window into the world of a nature photographer.

The presentation will be presented as part of the regular monthly meeting of the Photographic Society of Parker River National Wildlife Refuge.

Milicia is a Massachusetts-based nature photographer who also teaches photography and leads a variety of workshops. Some of Milicia’s images can be viewed at his web site: michaelmiliciaphotography.com.

The Photographic Society of Parker River National Wildlife Refuge is a community of people, irrespective of experience level, who enjoy learning and practicing the art of nature and wildlife photography. Anyone sharing this interest is welcome to attend the Society’s regular meetings, which generally occur on the second Saturday afternoon of each month.
