---- — NORTH ANDOVER — The selectmen voted unanimously last night to give Town Manager Andrew Maylor a new five-year contract.
Maylor, who began his duties in North Andover on Dec. 16, 2011, is now paid $145,000 per year. His salary will increase by 2.5 percent July 1, 2014, then rise by 2.5 percent each July 1 for the life of the contract.
By 2018, the last year of the agreement, he’ll be making slightly more than $164,000 per year. Rosemary Connelly Smedile, chairwoman of the Board of Selectmen, said that by not taking the town’s health insurance plan, Maylor saved taxpayers $18,000 per year.
Maylor, who served as town administrator of Swampscott for nine years before he accepted his current post, said he was pleased with the contract and looks forward to working in North Andover for the next five years.
The selectmen expressed hearty approval of the manager.
“Keep up the good work,” Selectman William Gordon said. Gordon also commended his colleagues, Tracy Watson and Smedile, for negotiating the contract with the manager.
Smedile credited Maylor with getting the town on a “good track” financially.
Maylor and the board met in executive session for a few minutes, then the selectmen approved the new contract in open session.
“The board did come to an agreement,” Smedile said.
Maylor, 51, an accountant by profession, was the town accountant for Winthrop, then deputy city manager of Chelsea before he was hired as Swampscott’s town administrator in 2002. He resides in Lynnfield.
