Suspects accused of stealing from 8 Salem stores

SALEM — Two young women and two teenage girls were arrested Monday for allegedly shoplifting from at least eight different stores.

Loss prevention personnel at the Gap store in the Mall at Rockingham Park spotted the four females stealing clothing from the store, and proceeded to follow them and called Salem police, police Capt. Shawn Patten said.

Security workers watched as the group stole from several other stores in the mall before police officers showed up to arrest them at about 4:30 p.m. Monday, Patten said.

Norma Robinson, 21, Samantha Trongeau 21, Christine Flammia, 17, and a 16-year-old girl, all from Haverhill, were arrested on shoplifting charges. The 16-year-old's charges will be dealt with in juvenile court, while the three others were charges with conspiracy to commit theft. Robinson also faces an additional charge of criminal liability in regards to the 16-year-old.

Police believe the quartet stole from at least eight mall stores, including Gap, Icing, Claire's, Pacific Sun, Disney, Deb's, Hollister and Zumiez, Patten said.

The total value of merchandise is not known, but is estimated to be worth at least hundreds of dollars, Patten said.

The 16-year-old was released to the custody of her parents following the arrest, while the other three suspects all refused the services of a bail commissioner, so they spent the night in jail.

At their arraignments yesterday morning in Salem District Court, Flammia's bail was set at $1,000 cash and she was still incarcerated yesterday afternoon. Robinson and Trongeau were released on $2,500 personal recognizance.

They are all scheduled for trial on Aug. 24.
