Erratic driving complaints lead to pair of arrests

NORTH ANDOVER — Complaints about erratic driving led to two people being arrested and charged with impaired operation during the weekend.

Andover police warned their local counterparts at 7:21 p.m. Friday that an erratic driver was heading toward North Andover on the Andover Bypass Road. Local police pursued the vehicle and stopped it near 77 Edgelawn Ave.

Officer Michael Gilligan, concerned about the condition of the driver, called for an ambulance. He arrested Tricia Toshach, 43, of 23 Edgelawn Ave., and charged her with operating under the influence of drugs, marked lanes violation and speeding.

A citizen reported an erratic driver at 6:24 p.m. Sunday. Officer Jason Wedge found the motorist in question and stopped her near Peters and Turnpike streets.

Caroline Gaffney, 23, of 17 Buckley Road, Littleton, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of liquor.

Lt. Charles Gray, police spokesman, said these two incidents show that his department takes reports about unsafe driving very seriously.
