LAWRENCE — Detectives raided the apartment of a South Broadway man, seizing a Glock handgun, cocaine, marijuana and more than $5,000 cash early yesterday morning.
Police said they also found a silver “special police” badge and handcuffs in Edwin Roberto Alvarez’s apartment above 423 So. Broadway.
Further investigation is planned to see what Alvarez was using the police badge for. “We want to determine if he identified himself as a police officer,” Police Chief John Romero said.
Alvarez, 31, was arrested and charged with trafficking cocaine, illegal possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, illegal possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, improper storage of a firearm, and illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Following a daylong narcotics investigation, police executed a search warrant at Rodriguez’s home, according to a report by Detective Carmen Purpora. The following items were seized by police; Glock .40 caliber firearm, Glock ammunition, black handcuffs, silver police badge, Alvarez’s passport, personal papers and $5,031, according to the report.
Also found were cocaine, crack cocaine, marijuana, a digital scale and prescription pill bottles believed to contain ecstasy.
Also arrested in connection with the drug investigation was Keith Allen Bishop, 46, of Litchfield, N.H.
He was charged with illegal possession of heroin and cocaine, according to report by Detective Dean Murphy.
