Head to Leach Library this summer

LONDONDERRY — Leach Library in Londonderry is hosting Summer Reading Programs for children, young adults and adults in the community.

These programs will encourage a summer full of reading and will include a number of events and prizes for all ages.

Children’s Summer Reading: Have a mammoth good time with this summer’s reading program. The theme is Dig Into Reading.

All reading program participants will work on one team to try to read enough books to dig a tunnel the length of Mammoth Road in Londonderry, from the Windham town line in the south, to the Manchester town line in the north and back again, with a total goal of 34,496 yards, or 19.6 miles. Each book read will equal one yard of tunnel dug. Follow the worm as it tracks progress through the tunnel.

The program is open to all children from birth through sixth grade. Upon registration, participants will receive a packet containing calendars noting the dates and times of all programs.

Young Adult Summer Reading: Leach Library’s Young Adult Summer Reading Program 2013 is open to any student entering grades 6-12. Registration is ongoing from June 1 through Aug. 12.

The theme this year is Beneath the Surface. This summer, enjoy activities and books that help you learn about yourself and the world around and below you. Weekly meetings will be held on Thursday nights in the lower level meeting room beginning Thursday, June 20.

Meetings include journal making, games night, writing an action adventure story, and a book discussion.

Adult Summer Reading: The 2013 Adult Summer Reading Program theme is Groundbreaking Reads.

Registration for the program will begin on Saturday, June 1, and runs through Saturday, Aug. 31.

The program is open to any Leach Library adult card-holder.

Participants may register at any time at the Reference Desk where they will receive an information sheet and a bingo card to be filled out during the summer.

This card can be turned in when five blocks are completed for a chance to win a prize.

Check out the central display each month over the summer for a selection of reading material with different topics relating to the theme, such as groundbreaking reads, subterranean experiences, and archaeology.
