METHUEN — A well-disguised bank robber eluded police after holding up The Savings Bank on Burnham Road yesterday.
Police said a male suspect wearing a camouflage hooded sweatshirt, black mask and black sunglasses entered the bank around 1:08 p.m. He then handed a teller a black duffle bag and demanded cash.
The suspect, who police described as 5-foot-7-inches and 175 lbs., then fled on foot toward Riverside Drive with an undetermined amount of cash, according to Methuen police Capt. Kris McCarthy.
McCarthy said an hour-long search of the area including the Police Department’s K9 unit proved unsuccessful.
McCarthy said the suspect did not appear to be armed.
The Savings Bank, located at 17 Burnham Road, is one of several banks in the area.
”It’s close to the highway,” said McCarthy. “In that area the banks have been hit before.”
