Police log

ANDOVER — Andover police arrested two Lawrence men Tuesday after a brief car chase on River Road led to a foot pursuit through woods.

Arrested were Michael Stevens, 33, and Jose Roman, 19, both of 82 Bennington St.

The chase started when police discovered Stevens' license plate had been revoked and tried to stop him, said Lt. James Hashem. Stevens sped off. He crashed the car into woods at Campanelli Road, where both men fled on foot, Hashem said.

Stevens was charged with resisting arrest, disturbing the peace, and speeding in violation of special regulation, as well as driving on a revoked license and registration, driving to endanger, failing to stop for police, and driving an uninsured vehicle. He also had several outstanding warrants.

Roman was charged with resisting arrest and disturbing the peace. He also had 13 outstanding warrants for his arrest on various charges, including assault, carrying a weapon, and stealing a vehicle. One officer received minor injuries in the pursuit, Hashem said.
