---- — NORTH ANDOVER — A 59-year-old North Andover man suffered possible head injuries yesterday morning in a collision involving two bicycles on Salem Street near Huckleberry Lane, police said.

No information was available on the man’s identity or his condition last night.

But North Andover Fire Department Lt. Tim McGuire said the injuries were considered serious enough to call for a medical helicopter to land at Reynolds Playground and transport the injured man to Tufts Medical Center in Boston. The other bicyclist, a 51-year-old North Andover man, was not injured.

The initial report had a pedestrian on a bicycle being struck by a car.

But when emergency crews responded at about 7:40 a.m., they learned the accident involved a collision of two bicycles.

“The injured patients was among a group of bicyclists,” Lt. McGuire said.

“The front wheel of his bike clipped the back wheel of a rider in front of him, and he went over the handlebars. He hit his face area on the cement. When we got there, he was just lying on the ground. His family was notified,” he said.
