NORTH ANDOVER — The selectmen will be discussing Town Manager Andrew Maylor’s contract tonight.
The board is scheduled to meet in executive session at 7 p.m. at Town Hall. An item on the agenda for the board’s public session indicates the selectmen will consider approving a five-year contract for Maylor.
Rosemary Connelly Smedile, chairwoman of the Board of Selectmen, said it’s not absolutely certain the panel will be ready to approve Maylor’s contract by this evening. She pointed out that the law requires the board to list the approval of the contract if there is a possibility the selectmen will take that action.
She said she expects the negotiation with Maylor “will go sm
Maylor, 51, began his duties in North Andover on Dec. 16, 2011. He was hired at a salary of $145,000 per year. He previously served nine years as town administrator of Swampscott.
His previous jobs in municipal government include working as town accountant for Winthrop and deputy city manager of Chelsea. He has also chaired the board of directors of the Essex Regional Retirement System.
Smedile said it would be “fair to say” that she and her colleagues are pleased with Maylor’s performance so far. In July of last year, the board gave the manager a glowing evaluation, giving him a combined score of 4.8 out of a possible 5.
Maylor replaced Mark Rees, who left North Andover in 2011 when he was hired as city manager of Portland, Maine.
