Senior Center hosts patriotism talk

NORTH ANDOVER — Patriotism was rampant at the Senior Center last week.

The center was visited by members of the Patriot Guard Riders, who spoke to more than 50 people about how soldiers appreciate patriotism from Americans, said Carmela Previti, a member of the riders.

"The attendance was overwhelming, because there is so much patriotism around, and people were delighted that we were there," Previti said.

The Patriot Guard Riders are a national organization that encourages patriotism.

Previti said every mission soldiers go on is emotional for both those in uniform and their families.

"When the families themselves shake our hands, because they are so thankful for our support, it is just overwhelming," Previti said. "And, of course, the Welcome Home missions are just as emotional. Everyone is hugging everyone."

The event was held partly to bring attention to patriotism in America, which Previti said doesn't get noticed enough.

"I don't know why the TV and the media don't portray what is out there," Previti said. "Patriotism is very strong."
