METHUEN — Robert LeBlanc, a lawyer and former Methuen town manager, is scheduled to be arraigned in Woburn District Court on Aug. 10 on an assault and battery charge for allegedly bear-hugging fellow attorney Pamela Saia-Rogers.
LeBlanc and Saia-Rogers work in Lawrence District Court, and that's where the incident allegedly happened. It's common for cases to be moved to other venues when they involve people who work in the court where the case would normally be heard.
Man sentenced in coin theft
METHUEN — A former employee of an appliance repair service was ordered to pay $11,000 restitution after he was convicted of stealing money from coin-operated laundry machines at the Colonial Village apartments.
During a March 26 plea hearing in Lawrence District Court, Charles Ross, 45, of 23 True Road, Seabrook, N.H., was found guilty of three counts of breaking and entering a depository and three counts of larceny over $250. Ross was sentenced to 18 months in the house of correction on the three counts of breaking and entering a depository and 18 months in the house of correction on the three larceny charges.
The jail sentences were suspended for two years and he was ordered to pay $11,000 restitution to his former employer, stay away from all witnesses in the case and undergo a drug evaluation with random screens.
Three counts of breaking and entering in the daytime with intent to commit a felony were dismissed due to lack of evidence.
The charges stemmed from complaints brought by Ross' former employer WSH Appliance Repair last July.
Water hearing today
METHUEN — City Councilors will hold a public hearing today at 6 p.m. to discuss the proposed fiscal year 2010 water charges.
The only proposed change to this year's water charges is a $5 increase in the flat fee that people pay each quarter, according to Mayor William Manzi.
The hearing will be held in the Great Hall of City Hall, 4l Pleasant St.
