Eighty-two residents from the Merrimack Valley will participate in the 30th annual Pan-Massachusetts Challenge — the nation's pioneer bike-a-thon for cancer — this weekend with 5,000 other cyclists from 36 states and eight countries.
The PMC is the single largest contributor to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and raises about half of the Jimmy Fund's annual revenue. Since 1980, it has raised more than $240 million for cancer research and patient care.
Cyclists will ride through 40 different cities and towns on seven different routes, ranging from the two-day 190-mile Sturbridge to Provincetown route to the Sunday 47-mile Wellesley-to-Wellesley loop.
To become a virtual rider, or make a financial contribution to a rider from your town, visit www.pmc.org, or call (800) WE-CYCLE. Checks can be made payable to PMC, 77 Fourth Ave., Needham, Mass. 02494.
