Troopers catch man breaking into auto

LAWRENCE - State Troopers Douglas Dolan and James Connolly were on patrol in Lawrence when they heard Lawrence Police broadcast a report of breaking and entering in progress on Willow Street early yesterday morning.

A 911 caller was reporting a male was breaking into her son's car. On arrival troopers observed Joseph Munoz, 20, of Lawrence inside a Honda sedan.

Troopers illuminated the Honda with their cruiser lights, surprising Munoz who jumped out of the car and ran away.

The troopers chased him on foot down the street and through several backyards before catching him attempting to hide behind a fence.

Police said Munoz had a small screwdriver on him when he was arrested,

Troopers reported damage to the Honda's steering column which was documented by Lawrence Police.

Munoz was arraigned in Lawrence District Court yesterday for the following charges: malicious destruction to a motor vehicle, possession of a burglarious instrument, breaking and 4ntering of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, and trespassing.
