Cops seize guns, arrest 7 in two separate probes

LAWRENCE — Police pulled five illegal guns and ammunition off the street sand made seven firearms and drug arrests in two separate investigations spanning morning to night Tuesday.

The weapons seized ranged from a Ruger to a sawed-off shotgun.

“These are five guns that will never be used to in a crime. Five guns that will never injure anyone,” Police Chief John Romero said.

The guns were seized by detectives after a search warrant was executed at 121 Emmett St. at 7 a.m. and later, in a separate investigation and arrest of wanted Abbott Street fugitive, Nelson Arroyo, 45, who was hiding out in nearby Haverhill, police said.

Arroyo was charged with illegal possession of a black Ruger handgun, a Beretta handgun shotgun and a sawed off shotgun he had hidden at a friend’s home in North Andover. Arroyo was not licensed to carry any of the guns. He is also facing illegal narcotics possession and assault charges.

Tuesday morning, during the Emmett Street raid, detectives confiscated a .380 caliber Smith & Wesson firearm with two magazines containing live ammunition as well as a .32 caliber Colt firearm with one magazine containing 8 live rounds, according to a report by Detective Carmen Purpora.

Investigators also seized heroin, crack cocaine, powder cocaine, scales, drug packaging materials, $4,120 cash, passports and more as they executed the search warrant, according to police reports.

The following people were arrested on the following charges as a result of the search warrant Tuesday morning:

Jose Ramon Martinez, 38, of 123 Emmett St., #1, Lawrence; four counts of illegal possession of heroin and cocaine, illegal possession of a firearm and illegal storage of a firearm.

Eleodoro Victorino, 53, of 123 Emmett St., #1, Lawrence; four counts of illegal possession of heroin and cocaine and two counts of illegal possession of a firearm.

Denis Rivera, 39, of 56 Phillips St., #2, Lawrence; illegal possession of heroin and cocaine, illegal possession of narcotics near a school and three outstanding warrants.
