Sisters foil car break-in

LAWRENCE — An Abbott Street woman heard glass breaking and looked out a window of her house to find a man inside her car parked on the street.

She grabbed a phone and her sister and they ran out to the porch as she dialed 911.

Police said the thief heard them coming and fled.

Omayra Montanez told Officer Ariskelda Ruffen the break happened at 11:46 p.m. Thursday. She said the person in her car was wearing a black hoodie.

Police said the car's right rear window was smashed, the radio had been partially removed from the dashboard and the console was damaged.

While the man inquired about the apartment and how to contact the landlord, the woman walked out.
