A little help from his friends

METHUEN — Former Mayor Dennis DiZoglio, who is now executive director of the Merrimack Valley Planning Commission, and state Rep. Linda Dean Campbell, D-Methuen, are endorsing Mayor William Manzi in his bid for re-election.

That's no surprise, as DiZoglio and Campbell have been Manzi's loyal allies.

Manzi's challenger, Al DiNuccio, has a list of endorsements on his Web site, dinuccioformayor.com

Coffee with Campagnone

Joyce Campagnone, a candidate for city councilor at-large, is hosting coffee hours tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. at the Senior Activity Center at 77 Lowell St. and Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Merrimack Valley Apartments at 20 Calumet Road.

Lounge with Lavallee

David Lavallee, candidate for Central District councilor, will be at the Senior Activity Center at 77 Lowell St. for a coffee hour on Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m.

Citizen Jack is now Blogger Jack

Jack Burke, who ran for West District councilor and lost in the Sept. 15 preliminary election, now has a blog — citizenjack.org.

In addition to dissecting city issues, he gives thoughtful advice about how to answer somebody who asks about your biggest mistakes in your professional life.

No pay for Cronin

City councilors earn measly pay for their service, but Central District Councilor John "Jack" Cronin Jr. is officially volunteering.

The council's $5,000 salary was cut by $500, or 10 percent, this year as part of the city's efforts to cope with the financial mess. Other city workers took 10 percent pay cuts, too.

Cronin, who is running for reelection, said during an interview last week that he gave up his salary this fiscal year to help offset the financial pain bestowed upon other city workers.
