New Nashua Road house in Pelham burns

PELHAM — A Nashua Road house still under construction but nearly finished sustained heavy damage from a two-alarm fire that appeared to have started in the garage and spread into the first floor before it was extinguished by firefighters early this morning.

At about 11:30 p.m. Nashua firefighters were called on a report of fire in the unoccupied home located near the intersection with Brookview Drive.

Upon arrival, heavy smoke was showing from the second floor of the home, according to a fire department spokesman.

Firefighters entered the building to find fire in the ceiling of the garage, which leads to the first floor.

They extinguished the blaze quickly but remained at the house for a couple more hours, extinguishing hotspots located in the framing of the floor. The house sustained extensive heat and smoke damage.

The owners have been notified, but their names were not available this morning.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Pelham Fire Department had assistance and back-up from Windham, Londonderry, Hudson, Salem, Methuen and Dracut.

Fire crews were off the scene by around 2 a.m.
