SALEM — Firefighters kept an overnight watch at 105 Shadow Lake Road where a one-story home condemned several years ago caught fire.
"There's going to be an engine on scene, at least until morning because there are still some hot spots that could flare up," Salem fire Capt John Brackett said late last night.
"This house has been unoccupied and too unsafe to enter for several years, so we had to fight the fire from the outside. The building fell off its foundation several years ago and nobody was living there," Brackett said.
The fire broke out about 7:40 p.m. The Salem Fire Department drew water from the lake to extinguish the blaze. Tanker trucks from Pelham, Atkinson and Windham also assisted. A fire engine and ambulance from Derry responded to the fire while units from Hampstead and Methuen provided station coverage.
The fire's cause remains under investigation. This marked the third fire over the last three days. Early Monday, firefighters battled a bedroom fire on Centerville Drive. On Tuesday night, there was an attic fire at 18 Elmwood Ave.
