LAWRENCE — A man was charged with damaging cars on Cambridge Street after police officers found him at the scene.
Officers Robert Moody and Todd Allard were sent to South Union and Cambridge Street about 9:05 p.m. Thursday after a witness called to report the damage and said the man was walking with a brown and white pit bull dog.
When the officers got to the scene they found William Cormier Jr., 26, of 2 Museum Square, walking with the unleashed dog, screaming and bleeding from his right hand. Cormier was arrested and placed in the back of a cruiser while the officers spoke to witnesses, police said.
Two people told the officers Cormier had smashed the side mirrors on their cars. While police were speaking to the victims, Cormier was screaming and kicking and banging his head against the inside of the cruiser. When he refused to stop, the officers sprayed him with pepper spray. He was taken to the police station where he was treated and his eyes rinsed of the pepper spray, police said.
Cormier was charged with malicious destruction of property over $250, disturbing the peace and resisting arrest. The dog couldn't be found, police said.
