LOWELL — The Methuen teen suspected in a Wednesday hit and run crash in Lowell that left a 12-year-old in the hospital has been cited for leaving the scene of an accident.
But Lowell police say Michelle Medeiros, 17, of 14 Bernard Lane, Methuen, could see more charges soon.
She faces fines and up to two years in jail for leaving the scene. Her license has been revoked.
"The investigation is not complete," said Lowell police Deputy Superintendent Arthur Ryan.
Medeiros, a senior at Methuen High School, allegedly struck and injured Kelvin Savanhmixay, 12, Wednesday at the crosswalk on Riverside Street. Detectives said she did not admit to crash until they questioned her yesterday.
Police were led to Medeiros after she filed a police report in Lawrence, saying her car was damaged while parked at a hair salon. Her father took the car to Best Body Shop in Methuen.
Medeiros was allegedly in Lowell dropping off an application for school at University of Massachusetts Lowell. She was late to a hair dresser appointment in Lawrence and was rushing there.
Savanhmixay, who is still in the hospital, is expected to make a full recovery.
