Pair arrested in drug deal turned robbery

ANDOVER — Two men have been arrested and a third is being sought after a drug deal turned into an armed robbery on a side street off River Road Sunday night, Lt. James Hashem said.

"The victim is an 18-year-old Andover resident who wanted to purchase marijuana from a dealer that he knows in town," Hashem said. "He met up with them and got into their car."

Hashem said the driver later pulled the car over and the victim was beaten and threatened with a knife.

"They threatened to stab him if he didn't hand over the money," Hashem said.

The victim handed over the money and fled to his residence, where he called police to report the crime.

After an investigation, Aaron Ganek, 18, of 1 Deerfield Way, was arrested Monday, and Timothy Lugo, 20, of 95 Argilla Road, was arrested yesterday, Hashem said.

"Both were charged with armed robbery," Hashem said.

A third suspect remains at-large and Hashem withheld his name pending an arrest.

Even though the victim, whose name police withheld, was attempting to purchase marijuana at the time of the incident, he faces no criminal charges, Hashem said.

"The purchase was not completed, and even if it was, possession of marijuana is no longer a crime here in Massachusetts," Hashem said.
