S.A.F.E. seeks volunteers
IPSWICH, Mass. — S.A.F.E. Studio is seeking volunteers to help in the areas of office assistant, fundraising, event planning and making art.
S.A.F.E. (Survivor Art For Empowerment) is a non-profit organization at 3 Essex Road in Ipswich, which works with survivors of trauma and abuse through therapeutic art programs.
"We rely on the compassion and caring of the community to support the S.A.F.E. Studio programs and that very much includes our corps of volunteers," said director Deborah Moules. "We would not be able to accomplish what we do without the assistance, dedication and determination of our volunteers."
In the past, volunteer efforts have ranged from helping with large fundraisers, such as golf tournaments, to providing a helping hand with an art project in the studio. Each year hundreds of adults and children whose lives have been impacted by trauma and abuse are given access to a fully-equipped art studio along with professional instruction. Program participants, who often have no background or training in art, create art as a way of healing trauma and increasing a survivor's self esteem.
S.A.F.E Studio was founded in 1996 by Moules, to provide art therapy programs for survivors and for those at-risk of abuse and trauma. Each year it helps over 260 women and children to heal from the horrific abuse and trauma they have endured and to gain the confidence they need in order to move ahead with their lives.
S.A.F.E. serves communities throughout northeastern Massachusetts, from Lynn to Gloucester and Lowell to Salisbury. For information, call 978-356-1141 or visit www.safestudio.org.
