Suspected burglar arrested inside restaurant

By Jim Patten

METHUEN — Quick response by Methuen police along with an assist from a state trooper and his dog led to the arrest of a man who allegedly broke into Jackson's Restaurant at 478 Lowell St., Monday afternoon, police said.

Officer Shaun Cronin was sent to the scene about 2:08 p.m. and met a man who told him he had seen someone enter the restaurant through a broken window, and had not seen him come out.

Officer Steve Hatem radioed that he could see the man running in the dining room and into the bar area.

Leo Dubois, owner of the restaurant arrived with a key and opened the door for police.

State trooper Gary Mozuch and his dog Jacco arrived and Mozuch yelled into the restaurant for the man to come out or he would send in the dog.

When the man didn't come out, Jacco went to work and found the man in a second-floor restroom.

He resisted arrested and was subdued with pepper spray. Officers found a bottle of liquor and two bottles of beer in the rest room, that had been taken from the bar area, police said.
