Celtics bring hunger fight to Lawrence

C's join forces with Sal's Pizza for 'Team Up For Hunger' awareness

The Boston Celtics aren’t only trying to beat a slew of NBA teams. A few Celtics representatives came to Lawrence yesterday trying to beat hunger.

The Celtics have teamed up with Sal’s Pizza and Project Bread to launch a new community initiative called “Teaming Up Against Hunger presented by Sal’s Pizza.”

The program is giving students at selected schools an opportunity to bring awareness to hunger by starring in their own Public Service Announcement (PSA) video. Fourth and fifth grade students in selected markets, including Lawrence, have been asked to create their own PSAs about the issues of hunger, ending hunger and eating healthy.

At the end of the video, the call to action will be to register for Project Bread’s Walk for Hunger on May 4th.

This program will occur at five elementary schools in Chelmsford, Lawrence, Lowell, Woburn and Boston. In each of these areas, the elementary schools will be visited for an introductory assembly to explain the program.

A Boston Celtics video crew then comes back to film the PSA’s. Judges from the Boston Celtics, Sal’s Pizza and Project Bread will select the winning classroom’s PSA. The final video PSA will include pieces from each classroom’s production, and will serve as a powerful message on the social issue of hunger. The PSAs will be showcased on Celtics.com and Sals-pizza.com.

The winning classroom will receive a private basketball clinic with Lucky and a Celtics Legend. Immediately following the clinic, there will be an all school pep-rally where Celtics and Sal’s representatives will speak and the final PSA will be shown to everyone at the assembly. The winning classroom will present a check to Project Bread, directed towards ending hunger.
