NORTH ANDOVER — Fenway Park is not the only place that boasts a lively opening day.
Smolak Farms will celebrate its own Opening Day tomorrow. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., there will be hay rides, games and crafts in the barn, cider doughnut holes for kids and a Birthday Party Open House. Any party booked that day will receive doughnuts and coffee for adults on the day of the party.
Flowers and plants from the Andover Flower Farm collection will fill the greenhouse.
The expansive property at Dale and South Bradford streets has been a farm for around 300 years. The grandparents of the current owner, Michael Smolak, bought the farm in the early 20th century after immigrating from Poland.
During the last decade or so, Smolak has expanded the farm beyond the agricultural pursuits of growing apples, peaches, strawberries, raspberries, pumpkins and other vegetables.
New activities that will be introduced this year include a Crop-to-Kitchen cooking series with farm chef Carolyn Grieco. Yoga and Yogurt will offer an afternoon yoga class, followed by homemade yogurt and freshly picked fruit from the Smolak Farms fields.
The Daily Picnic Program will let people enjoy a meal on the farm’s spacious grounds. Smolak Farms will provide a filled basket and blanket along with a map of the picnic sites.
A Garden Workshop Series for children and adults will take place in the greenhouse.
For the third season, Smolak Farms is offering the Whim Summer Restaurant Series. A group of celebrity chefs will present a unique but casual gourmet dining experience.
Many Smolak traditions will continue, including pick your own seasons for strawberries, raspberries, sweet purple and tart red cherries, blueberries, currants, gooseberries, heirloom tomatoes, peaches, apples, pumpkins, squash and Christmas trees.
Also back for another season are Summer Nature and Crafts, doll dressup tea parties and seasonal educational tours.
