NORTH ANDOVER— If you’re looking for a restaurant or bar that’s staying open later than usual on New Year’s Eve, you can find it without having to leave North Andover.
The selectmen voted unanimously last week to allow four establishments to stay open until 2 a.m. rather than the usual 1 a.m. The serving of alcohol will not be permitted after 1 a.m., however.
Ordinarily, last call in North Andover is at 12:30 a.m.
“We haven’t had a problem with this,” said Selectman Rosemary Connelly Smedile, who chairs the Board of Selectmen when it functions as the Board of Licensing Commissioners.
Police Lt. John Carney wrote in a memo to Assistant Town Clerk Karen Fitzgibbons, who handles licensing matters, that his department does not object to the extended closing time.
The establishments that will stay open an extra hour on New Year’s Eve are the Orzo Restaurant, 1170 Osgood St.; China Blossom, 946 Osgood St.; Chama Grill, 115 Main St.; and Camelot, 505 Sutton St. Each business asked the town for permission to close an hour later.
Town Clerk Joyce Bradshaw said North Andover has allowed the extended closing for years and there have been no difficulties.
