Gas odor forces evacuation of business

NORTH ANDOVER — A gas odor forced the evacuation of a 1600 Osgood St. business Thursday evening.

An off-duty North Reading firefighter reported the odor outside LaserCraze at 5:57 p.m. Firefighters and police officers responded and ordered people out of the building.

Columbia Gas sent a crew to the scene, which determined the odor came from an overpressurized gas line, according to the police log. The crew shut off the line.

The following items were taken from area police logs for Thursday, Dec. 27:


Trespassing: School Street, 12:10 a.m.

Accident: No injuries, tow required, Central Street, 6:18 a.m.

Theft: Cell phone stolen, North Main Street, 5:51 p.m.

Accident: Injuries reported, two vehicles towed, Salem Street, 6:18 p.m.



Car break: 4 Oak Ridge St., 5:10 a.m.

Car break: 106 Sevoian Drive, stolen purse, 11:59 a.m.

Car break: 42 University Lane, 12:24 p.m.

Crash: 147 Merrimack St., hit and run, 1:13 p.m.

Assault: Hampshire St., 4:13 p.m.

Crash: Union and River streets, hit and run, 8:35 p.m.


Clogged drain: Boston and Turnpike streets, 8:49 a.m.

Citation issued for expired inspection sticker: Massachusetts Avenue, 3 p.m.
