Store clerk frightens off armed men

LAWRENCE – Rafael Lantigua told police he doesn’t allow anyone entering his store with their hoods up, especially after dark.

So, Lantigua, 57, of Lawrence, was ready for the two men who walked into Elvis Market at 9 Newton St. Friday night with their hoods pulled tight only allowing their eyes to be seen.

“Once inside the store he saw that the male in the front which was wearing a greenish jacket began to pull out a gun and point it at him,” Detective Carlos Cueva wrote in his police report.

“The victim then reached for his own firearm from his waist band and pointed it at the two males. The male in the front then saw the firearm and stated (expletive) he has a gun and jumped back,” Cueva said.

Lantigua told police he then chased the men out of the store and saw them last running down Salem Street. Both suspects carried black handguns.

Police were unable to locate any suspects after investigating the incident.

Nothing was stolen from the store, according to police.
