Training focuses on elderly suicide prevention

---- — LAWRENCE – The Samaritans of Merrimack Valley is offering a free training focusing on suicide prevention among people ages 55 and older, March 20 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Marguerite’s House Assisted Living, 189 Maple St.

The program is geared targeted for people who through their personal, professional or volunteer activities, have regular contact with older adults.

Through the training, participants will be able to assess an older adult’s suicide risk, intervene with an individual at risk and connect them with ongoing professional help. The program is funded by the Department of Public Health.

Fill up on spaghetti Saturday night

EAST HAMPSTEAD — A Spaghetti Supper will be held on Saturday from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at East Hampstead Union Church, 225 E. Main St. (Route 121A) just south of Route 111.

The menu will be spaghetti, Italian meatballs and sauce, salad, rolls, assorted desserts and beverages.

The cost for the meal is $7 for adults, $3 for children under 12, with no charge for preschoolers.

The church is chair-lift accessible. Take-out meals are available.

Proceeds will benefit the operating fund of this historic church.

Celebrate an ‘Evening of Music’ in Windham

WINDHAM – Windham Community Band’s “Evening of Music” benefit is set for 5:15 p.m. March 2 at the Castleton.

Windham resident and NECN anchor Mike Nikitas will perform “Casey at the Bat.”

There will be performances by the band. Tickets are $50 or $475 for a table of 10.

PELHAM – Friends of the Library will host “For the Love of Chocolate: An Evening in the Stacks” on Friday, Feb. 8, from 7 to 9 p.m.

There will be chocolate treats and a chocolate fountain.

Classical guitarist Charlie Christos and the Windy Hill Jazz Ensemble will perform.

Local authors will discuss and sign their books. There will be raffle prizes, include a two-night getaway at Anchorage Inn at York Beach.

Lithuanians celebrate independence

LAWRENCE - Local Lithuanians celebrate the 95th anniversary of their country’s Independence, with a Mass in Lithuanian and English Feb. 17 at 11 a.m. at Corpus Christi, 35 Essex St.

Dinner featuring traditional dishes follows at 12:30 p.m. at the Corpus Christi church hall on Common St. Cost is $12 adults and $5 for children. During the dinner the movie “The Other Dream Team,” about Lithuania winning the Bronze medal in the 1992 Olympics,” will be shown.
